Algeria enjoys a significant electricity production capacity, with installed capacity reaching 26,107.20 megawatts, while the electricity coverage rate stands at 99%, benefiting 12,297,856 customers.

Algeria produces and markets electricity through the Algerian Electricity and Gas Company (Sonelgaz), within the scope of activities of its subsidiary Sonelgaz – Electricity Production, which is responsible for operating and maintaining production units in compliance with all standards related to maintenance, performance, and occupational safety. In this context, the company is entrusted with monitoring the operating capability of the production system and ensuring compliance with public service obligations, particularly with regard to the continuity and quality of electricity supply to customers, as well as respecting environmental protection regulations and the operation, maintenance, and protection of shared facilities and equipment.

As for electricity transmission, the Sonelgaz Group, through its subsidiary Sonelgaz – Electricity Transmission and the system operator, ensures the operation, maintenance, development, and management of the electricity transmission network across the national territory, in accordance with the applicable legislation and regulations, and the provisions of Law No. 01-02 of February 5, 2002, relating to electricity and gas distribution by pipelines. In particular, it ensures the continuous balance between consumption and production, as well as the safety, reliability, and efficiency of electricity supply.
