Within the framework of the responsibilities of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, and through the Algerian Electricity and Gas Company (Sonelgaz), activities in the gas sector are limited to transportation and distribution. The natural gas coverage rate reaches 72%, across a distribution network extending over 24,599 km, while the number of gas subscribers amounts to 8,132,420 customers.

Through Sonelgaz – Gas Transmission, natural gas is transported to electricity generation units, public gas distribution centers, and industrial customers under the best conditions of safety, quality, and pricing throughout the national territory.

The same company is also responsible for managing the national gas transmission network, as well as operating, maintaining, and developing the gas transmission system, with the aim of ensuring adequate capacity to meet gas transit and storage needs under optimal safety conditions.
