In a bid to strengthen the level of external cooperation and boost the country’s economic development, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Mr. Mourad Adjal, received, on Monday, 20 October 2025, a delegation from the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), led by the President of the institution, Mr. Liqun Jin.
During the meeting, which took place at the Ministry and was attended by a number of its senior executives, both parties discussed avenues and prospects for cooperation between Algeria and the Asian bank on several important economic issues related to the energy and renewable energies sector, particularly with regard to the financing of structuring projects.
In his address, Dr. Mourad Adjal, Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, reviewed the major development projects currently being implemented and developed by the energy and renewable energies sector, as well as the sector’s efforts aimed at achieving the energy diversification program, affirming Algeria’s position as a reliable economic partner and a key player in ensuring energy security at both the continental and international levels.
In this context, the Minister, Dr. Mourad Adjal, referred to the significant steps taken by Algeria in implementing the renewable energies program, through the execution of the 15,000-megawatt renewable energy project, of which a substantial component has already been achieved, namely the completion of 3,200 megawatts of solar and photovoltaic energy, being implemented across 14 Wilayas nationwide.
While presenting the energy diversification and transition program, the Minister in charge of the sector spoke about Algeria’s efforts to shift from fossil energy to clean energies, including projects related to green hydrogen, photovoltaic energy, hydropower, and wind energy, which constitute an economic challenge for the entire world, not only for Algeria. He also addressed the sector’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote the energy transition.
Within this framework, Dr. Mourad Adjal emphasized the importance of cooperation between Algeria and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, in light of the development momentum experienced by Algeria and the investment climate that has begun to attract leading economic operators from around the world.
For his part, the President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, Mr. Liqun Jin, delivered a presentation on the nature of the Bank, its activities, and the extent of its global presence, noting that Algeria was among the countries that were early to join this financial institution since its establishment.
