As part of efforts to enhance international cooperation and explore ways to expand Algeria’s global partnerships, Dr. Mourad Adjal, Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, received today, Sunday, 2 November 2025, a delegation of executive officials from the World Bank Board of Directors, representing seventy (70) countries worldwide. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, focused on discussing the status of cooperation between the sector and the World Bank, and exploring opportunities to expand partnerships, particularly regarding the development of clean energy production and green hydrogen.

In his opening remarks, delivered in the presence of a representative from the Ministry of Finance and several senior officials from the Ministry, Dr. Mourad Adjal highlighted Algeria’s strategy for investment in renewable and clean energies. He referred to the 15,000 MW renewable energy program targeting 2035, currently being implemented by the sector, noting that a significant milestone has already been achieved with the 3,200 MW solar and photovoltaic phase, which is expected to enter service in 2026.

The Minister also discussed the major projects being undertaken to strengthen Algeria’s international standing, such as the submarine electricity line connecting Algeria to Italy, which will open the door for electricity exports to Europe, and the North-South Africa interconnection project, alongside initiatives to reinforce cooperation between Algeria and other African countries. He emphasized the strategic importance of these projects and described Algeria as a producer of “sustainable, reliable, and guaranteed energy”, aiming to export surplus energy abroad.

Within this context, Dr. Mourad Adjal expressed the sector’s desire to collaborate with the World Bank in studying several large-scale energy projects requiring significant investment to achieve the energy transition program, considered one of Algeria’s strategic initiatives.

The World Bank delegation, through interventions by its various members, expressed interest in Algeria’s experience and contributions to the energy transition project, noting that the Bank has multiple mechanisms that can be used to activate the partnership with Algeria. Regarding the status of the files under cooperation between the sector and the World Bank, the speakers pledged to accelerate progress and make efforts more effective, ensuring that the projects are implemented in the shortest possible time.
