Statement : Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Receives the Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Geology of the Republic of Chad

As part of efforts to strengthen external cooperation and expand Algeria’s international partnerships, particularly at the continental level, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, received today, Wednesday 17 December 2025, at the Ministry’s headquarters, Ms. Ndolénodji Alex Naïmbaye, Minister of Petroleum, Mines and Geology of the Republic of Chad. The Chadian minister is on a working visit to Algeria, heading a high-level delegation including senior officials from sectoral institutions in Chad.

During the meeting, both sides discussed ways to boost cooperation and partnership between Algeria and the Republic of Chad, in line with the will of the leadership and the peoples of both countries.

Following the official reception ceremony, a working session was held in the presence of the Chadian diplomatic representative in Algeria, Mr. Mahamat Ali Ahmed, as well as several senior executives from the Ministry. On this occasion, the two parties highlighted the depth of bilateral relations between Algeria and Chad and discussed ways to strengthen and expand areas of bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy and renewable energies.

In his address, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, outlined Algeria’s capabilities and expertise in the energy and renewable energy sectors, particularly in electricity generation, transmission and distribution, as well as gas transmission and distribution. He also highlighted Algeria’s significant experience in the electrical and gas industries, including gas turbine manufacturing, services and training, in addition to its expertise in nuclear energy, which Algeria is directing toward investment in nuclear medicine. The Minister also referred to Algeria’s experience in renewable energies and green hydrogen, emphasizing the diversified energy mix the country enjoys.

In this context, the Minister reaffirmed Algeria’s strong commitment to advancing cooperation and exchange with the Republic of Chad in the fields of energy and renewable energies, in a manner that enhances effectiveness and dynamism.

For her part, Ms. Ndolénodji Alex Naïmbaye expressed her keen interest in the Algerian model of energy development, voicing Chad’s desire to benefit from Algeria’s expertise and experience in developing the energy and renewable energy sector. She stressed that this experience is the closest to Chad in terms of economic and development conditions, and presented a number of challenges facing her country in this field, particularly the weakness of the electricity grid.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to establish joint working committees between the relevant ministries to examine, study and prepare a draft memorandum of understanding to be signed by both parties. This memorandum will serve as the cornerstone for implementing a roadmap aimed at giving real momentum to sustainable cooperation and partnership between the two sides.

It is worth noting that the Chadian delegation had previously paid a working visit to the headquarters of the electricity system operator. During this visit, the Minister expressed great interest in Algeria’s experience in managing the electricity system and in the advanced technologies used by this entity, which she described as a model.
