As part of efforts to strengthen external cooperation, particularly at the continental level, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, received today, Wednesday 31 December 2025, at the headquarters of his ministerial department, Mr. Rachid Ali Abdallah, Executive Director of the African Energy Commission (AFREC), along with a delegation of senior officials from the same body.
AFREC is specialized in developing energy efficiency strategies in Africa and in supporting the efforts of African Union member states in implementing the energy transition program, through the development of appropriate policies and strategies to enhance investment in the energy sector across the African continent and to contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
In his opening address at the meeting—held in the presence of several senior officials from the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies—the Minister highlighted his department’s strong interest in cooperation with this African commission, which he described as being closely engaged with the most pressing issues in the global energy market. He particularly emphasized energy management as a key priority for the Algerian State and a cornerstone of the national energy security program, in addition to energy transition files, notably green hydrogen, solar energy, and energy efficiency.
In this context, the Minister affirmed that the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies is fully open to cooperation with this important continental commission, in a manner that allows Algeria to benefit from AFREC’s extensive expertise in supporting and accompanying several energy projects included within the Ministry’s action plan.
For his part, Mr. Rachid Ali Abdallah expressed AFREC’s readiness to cooperate with the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies and to support it through the transfer of expertise in developing various energy-related development programs for the Algerian side.
In conclusion, the Minister stated that a working meeting will be held in the coming days to review the status of cooperation with AFREC and to define future areas of cooperation in accordance with the 2026 roadmap.
