As part of efforts to strengthen external cooperation and explore ways to expand Algeria’s international partnerships, particularly at the continental level, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr Mourad Adjal, received on Sunday, 8 February 2026, a delegation of senior executives from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), led by Mr Ethiopis Tafara, IFC’s regional Vice President for Africa. The meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, focused on discussing avenues for enhancing partnership opportunities between the sector and this global financial institution at both national and international levels.

In his opening address, delivered in the presence of a representative of the Ministry of Finance and several senior officials from the Ministry, Dr Mourad Adjal highlighted the pivotal role of the energy sector in achieving economic and social development. He emphasised the level of expertise Algeria possesses through its companies, institutions and national competencies across the entire energy value chain, from the production to the transmission and distribution of electricity and gas, as well as its considerable abilities in electrical industries, training and engineering. Alongside the State’s strategic orientation towards investment in renewable and clean energies, referring to the project to produce 15,000 MW by 2035, which is being implemented by the sector. These indicators, the Minister noted, confirm Algeria’s position as a reliable partner in supporting energy development at the continental level, particularly in Africa.

For his part, Mr Ethiopis Tafara expressed the IFC’s strong interest in exploring opportunities for cooperation and partnership with the energy and renewable energies sector, focusing on two key axes at both national and international levels, proposing a partnership project in the field of electricity generation from wind power. At the continental level, he suggested drawing on Algeria’s expertise to support energy development in Africa, particularly in countries facing a significant deficit in access to electricity.

Dr Mourad Adjal, in turn, reaffirmed Algeria’s commitment to act as a strategic partner in increasing electricity access across Africa and supporting energy development on the continent, drawing on the significant achievements made by Algeria through its national competencies in this field. He stressed the importance of translating this partnership into concrete actions on the ground.

At the conclusion of the meeting, it was agreed to hold technical working sessions bringing together technical and financial experts from both sides, with a view to shaping a strong and effective partnership between the energy and renewable energies sector and the International Finance Corporation for the Africa region.
