During the meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters and was attended by several senior officials, the two sides discussed ways and prospects for cooperation between Algeria and the AIIB across various key economic areas related to the energy and renewable energy sectors, particularly in financing major structural projects.
In his address, Dr. Mourad Adjal presented an overview of the major development projects currently being implemented and developed by the energy and renewable energy sector, as well as the sector’s efforts to achieve the energy diversification program. He reaffirmed Algeria’s position as a reliable economic partner and a key player in ensuring energy security both at the continental and international levels.
The Minister also highlighted the significant progress Algeria has made in implementing its renewable energy program, particularly the 15,000 MW renewable energy project. He noted that a major portion of this program (3,200 MW of solar photovoltaic energy) is already being developed across 14 provinces nationwide.
While presenting the energy diversification and transition strategy, the Minister spoke about Algeria’s efforts to shift from fossil fuels to clean energy sources such as green hydrogen, photovoltaic power, hydropower, and wind energy, sectors that represent a global economic challenge and opportunity, not only for Algeria. He also mentioned the sector’s initiatives to reduce carbon emissions and promote the energy transition.
In this context, Dr. Adjal emphasized the importance of cooperation between Algeria and the AIIB within the current dynamic of national development and the favorable investment climate that is increasingly attracting major international economic players.
