The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, officiated at the official installation ceremony of the new Chairwoman of the Electricity and Gas Regulatory Commission on December 22, 2025. Ms. Bahia Chkired was appointed to replace the former officeholder, Ms. Wassila Atimen. This change comes within the framework of strengthening institutional performance and consolidating the principles of good governance.

The installation ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, in the presence of heads and officials of sectoral bodies. On this occasion, the Minister emphasized the pivotal role played by the Electricity and Gas Regulatory Commission as one of the fundamental pillars in regulating the energy sector—this strategic and vital sector that directly affects economic development, the quality of public service, and the security of energy supply. He also highlighted the significant progress achieved by the Commission since its establishment on January 24, 2005, particularly in regulating and monitoring the electricity and gas market, and in promoting competition and transparency in this vital sector through the consolidation of its legal and regulatory framework.

On the same occasion, Minister Dr. Mourad Ajal praised the efforts made by the former head of the Electricity and Gas Regulatory Commission. He noted that the appointment of the new Chairwoman, Ms. Bahia Chkirid, comes in a context aligned with the new vision for the sector and as a translation of the roadmap being implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies. This roadmap aims to inject new momentum into its affiliated services and enhance their dynamism, enabling them to carry out their regulatory and oversight missions with greater efficiency and effectiveness. He wished her every success in her new duties and reaffirmed the Ministry’s full support and accompaniment during the coming period.
