As part of the working and inspection visits carried out by the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, to several provinces across the country, Dr. Mourad Ajal paid a visit to Ghardaïa Province on December 16, 2025. He was accompanied by a high-level delegation of officials from the Ministry and the Sonelgaz Group. Upon his arrival, he was received by the wali of the province, Mr. Abdellah Abi Nouar, along with representatives of local and security authorities.

During the first stop of the visit, the delegation inspected the project for the construction of a 30/60 kV power substation in the Oued Chnou area, with an installed capacity of 2 × 40 MVA. This project aims to strengthen the electricity network in the region, including residential communities and economic operators (industrial and agricultural). The total cost of the project is estimated at 2,353 million Algerian dinars. It will also contribute to improving the quality of service across the province, in addition to creating permanent job opportunities.

Within the framework of Algeria’s state strategy in the context of the energy transition program toward renewable energies, and given the importance of photovoltaic energy projects, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, together with the Governor of Ghardaïa Province, Mr. Abdellah Abi Nouar, and the accompanying delegation, laid the foundation stone for the project to supply, transport, and operate a photovoltaic solar power plant with a capacity of 82 MW in the municipality of El Guerrara, Ghardaïa Province. The project includes construction works and connection to the electricity transmission network, with a total cost reaching 9,620 million Algerian dinars. This project will enhance the regional power grid using clean energy and reduce the carbon footprint.

At the third stop of the visit, the Minister chaired a practical and interactive working meeting at the headquarters of the province, in the presence of the wali, Mr. Abdellah Abi Nouar, representatives of the executive branch, elected officials, local authorities, and a number of notable figures of the province, as well as a high-level delegation of Sonelgaz Group officials headed by the Group’s Chief Executive Officer.

In his opening address to the meeting, the Minister pointed out that this visit falls within the roadmap adopted by the Ministry to implement the directives of the President of the Republic, through strengthening field presence to listen to citizens’ concerns and translating state priorities into practical projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency of public services and improving the level of service delivery.

The meeting also included a presentation on the performance level of the sector in Ghardaïa, covering key figures related to the supply of electricity and gas, the electrification and gas distribution programs, as well as an overview of the status of ongoing projects and development programs.

In conclusion, the Minister listened to the concerns raised by elected officials and the local executive authorities, and issued instructions emphasizing the need for coordination with local authorities and the concerned bodies to take appropriate measures to improve the performance of the Ministry’s affiliated services. This will ensure the best possible level of public service quality and contribute to strengthening the path of local development.
