Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies Conducts a Working and Inspection Visit to Assess Sector Performance in Laghouat

The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, arrived on December 15, 2025, at Moulay Ahmed Medeghri Airport, at the head of a delegation comprising senior officials from his Ministry and executives from the Sonelgaz Group, as part of a working and inspection visit to the provinces of Laghouat and Ghardaïa. Upon his arrival in Laghouat , he was welcomed by the Governor of Laghouat, Mr. Mohamed Ben Malek, accompanied by the President of the Provincial People’s Assembly, officials from the energy and renewable energies sector, as well as representatives of local and security authorities.

As part of the first stop of this working visit, carried out on December 15 and 16, 2025, in the provinces of Laghouat and Ghardaïa, Dr. Mourad Adjal led a delegation of senior ministry officials and Sonelgaz executives to Laghouat Province, where he held a working meeting with the Governor, Mr. Mohamed Ben Malek. The meeting was attended by members of the executive branch, elected officials, and representatives of local authorities.

In his opening remarks at the meeting held at the provincial headquarters, the Governor praised the level of performance of the Ministry’s services in Laghouat , while also presenting a range of concerns and needs expressed by citizens with regard to energy services.

For his part, Dr. Mourad Ajal, Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, affirmed that this visit falls squarely within the roadmap set by the Ministry, aimed at implementing the high directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, particularly with respect to maintaining close proximity to citizens, listening to their concerns, and translating state priorities into realistic projects that enhance the efficiency of public services and improve the quality of public service delivery.

The Minister further explained that this visit reflects the Ministry’s commitment to closely monitoring the on-the-ground implementation of approved programs, thereby demonstrating the State’s determination to achieve balanced and comprehensive development across all provinces of the country. He highlighted Laghouat ; in particular, which benefits from an installed capacity of 1,790 MVA, with an electricity connection rate of 87% and a gas connection rate of 83%. He also referred to the achievements made in strengthening electricity and gas networks and developing energy infrastructure adapted to the province’s geographical characteristics, in line with the growing demand for electricity and gas.

Regarding the promotion of the Aflou area to a full-fledged province under the latest administrative division, the Minister stated that the Ministry’s services will work to provide all necessary means to support development in this newly established province. This includes the construction of headquarters for distribution directorates, as well as the allocation of recruitment quotas to facilitate the launch and operationalization of these directorates as soon as possible, within the framework of ongoing efforts to improve the quality and effectiveness of public services.

In conclusion of the meeting, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies listened attentively to the concerns raised by elected officials and the local executive authorities. He issued instructions stressing the need for coordination with local authorities and the relevant bodies to take appropriate measures to improve the performance of the Ministry’s affiliated services, thereby ensuring the highest possible quality of public service and contributing to the strengthening of local development.

During the visit, the Minister also inspected a number of energy projects in the province, notably the North–South 400 kV power transmission line in Hassi R’mel, as well as the Tilghimet power generation plant.
