Acting on instructions from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, accompanied the Prime Minister, Mr. Seifi Ghrieb, on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, during a working visit to the Republic of Niger to oversee the inauguration ceremony of the Algerian–Nigerien Solidarity Power Plant, with a capacity of 40 MW, completed in the Gorou Banda area of Niamey.

This project reflects the high directives of the President of the Republic aimed at strengthening African solidarity and promoting South–South cooperation. Supervised by the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, the project was completed within a record period of less than three months while strictly complying with international technical standards in electricity generation and transmission.

This major energy project, carried out by Sonelgaz International in coordination with various subsidiaries of the Sonelgaz Group, demonstrates Algeria’s commitment to supporting development and enhancing energy security in the sister Republic of Niger. It also highlights the expertise and competence achieved by Algerian companies in implementing energy projects abroad.

The facility consists of a mobile gas turbine power plant with a total capacity of 40 MW (2 × 20 MW), designed to support Niamey’s electricity network, meet growing energy demand, and improve the continuity of power supply.

This achievement is particularly significant as it was made possible through the exceptional efforts of Algerian experts who mobilized their technical and human resources to complete the project within record deadlines, from engineering studies and design to the procurement, preparation, air transport of equipment to Niger, installation, assembly, testing, and commissioning, while fully respecting quality, safety, and technical standards.

To ensure the sustainability of the project and transfer Algerian expertise, a specialized training program was organized for eight employees of the Nigerien Electricity Company (NIGELEC) at Sonelgaz training schools in Algeria from 4 to 23 March 2026. Participants received theoretical and practical training in the operation and maintenance of mobile gas turbines in preparation for the plant’s commissioning.

The inauguration ceremony concluded with the honoring of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, and several officials through the presentation of medals and certificates of appreciation in recognition of their efforts in realizing this important energy achievement.
