As part of the implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening Algeria’s African dimension and promoting cooperation with African countries, particularly through the expansion of continental cooperation, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, received today, Wednesday, 20 May 2026, a high-level delegation from the Republic of Mozambique comprising senior officials and experts from the energy sector. The meeting focused on examining and discussing a number of issues related to bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the energy field.
During the meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in the presence of several senior officials, the Minister addressed the joint cooperation project between the two countries, particularly the construction of a 1,000 MW power generation plant for the benefit of Mozambique, relying on Algerian expertise in this field.
The Minister also highlighted Algeria’s significant production capacities in the manufacturing of various energy-related equipment and installations, especially those associated with high- and medium-voltage infrastructure. He stressed that this project would strengthen Mozambique’s energy capabilities and enable it to export electricity to six neighboring African countries, thereby underscoring the importance of implementing and completing the project as soon as possible.
For their part, the members of the Mozambican delegation expressed great interest in further developing this cooperation and benefiting from Algerian expertise. They considered that the project would contribute significantly to supporting economic development in their country as well as throughout the region.
