In implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at promoting and expanding the horizons of international partnership and enhancing cooperation at the continental level, and in follow-up to the cooperation file with the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Dr. Mourad Adjal, Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, held a videoconference meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2026, with the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Mr. Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly.
This meeting follows a series of discussions and technical field visits made by the Ivorian Minister to Algeria, which were followed by a visit from a high-level delegation of executives managing the energy sector in Côte d'Ivoire. The meeting was dedicated to defining the main axes and strategic priorities of the Algerian-Ivorian cooperation project.
During the meeting, the Minister renewed Algeria's keenness to elevate bilateral cooperation relations to levels consistent with efforts aimed at supporting energy development across the African continent and enhancing regional energy security. He affirmed Algeria's readiness to meet the needs of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire across the various links of the energy sector's value chain, particularly in the areas of production, transmission, and distribution, as well as electrical and gas equipment, and research and development equipment.
The Minister also confirmed Algeria's commitment to implementing all its pledges towards the Ivorian side, stressing the importance of the training axis, which Algeria can guarantee for the benefit of Ivorian technicians and executives through the specialized training schools affiliated with the Sonelgaz Group. He clarified that the realization of these commitments remains linked to the Ivorian side accurately defining its needs and requirements as soon as possible.
For his part, the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Mr. Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, praised the level of competence and professionalism he and the members of the Ivorian delegation witnessed during his visit to Algeria, commending the level of cooperation and coordination existing between the two sides. He also affirmed his country's eagerness to achieve effective and sustainable cooperation with Algeria, which he described as a reliable partner, given its constant commitment to implementing its pledges and respecting its obligations.
The meeting culminated in an agreement to begin preparing a draft framework agreement between the two ministries, which will be preceded by official correspondence from the Ivorian side containing a precise definition of its priority needs and requests. This serves as preparation for establishing a practical and integrated cooperation program between the two countries.
