As part of efforts to enhance external cooperation and explore ways to expand the areas and horizons of Algeria's international partnership, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, received on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, a delegation from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) of the United States of America. The meeting, which took place at the Ministry's headquarters, was dedicated to discussing and studying a number of energy files, particularly those related to the current reality and future prospects of the Algerian energy system.
During his opening remarks at the meeting, which was held in the presence of several senior Ministry officials and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mourad Adjal spoke about the significant role that energy plays in achieving economic and social development. He affirmed the high level of expertise that Algeria possesses—through its national companies, institutions, and competencies—across the various links of the energy sector's value chain, from the production of electricity and gas to their transmission and distribution. This is in addition to the immense potential the country holds in the fields of electrical industries, training, and engineering.
The Minister also highlighted the Algerian state's strategic orientation towards investing in renewable and clean energies, pointing to the project aimed at producing 15,000 megawatts by 2035, which the sector is currently undertaking. Furthermore, he discussed electricity interconnection projects with Europe, as well as the green hydrogen project, noting that these indicators represent crucial data confirming Algeria's position as a reliable and active partner in the energy field.
On the other hand, the Minister listened to a series of inquiries and questions raised by the members of the delegation, which primarily centered around the current state and future prospects of the energy sector in Algeria. The American delegation demonstrated great interest in the Algerian experience across various energy domains.
For his part, the Minister, Dr. Mourad Adjal, reaffirmed Algeria's strong desire to consolidate its position as a strategic partner, relying on the significant achievements it has realized thanks to its national competencies in this field.
