Within the framework of implementing the high directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening Algeria's African presence and supporting the path of development and integration across the African continent—through the promotion of cooperation and partnership relations with African countries—and in the context of following up on bilateral cooperation projects between Algeria and the Republic of Niger, particularly in the energy sector, as well as enhancing the level of consultation and coordination between the two countries, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, received today, Monday, May 19, 2026, the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Niger, Mrs. Amadou Haoua. This meeting took place as part of the working visit by the President of the Republic of Niger to Algeria, which aims to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand the horizons of partnership between the two brotherly countries.
This meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies in the presence of several senior ministry officials, falls within the context of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two parties, following a previous meeting between the two ministers in the Nigerien capital, Niamey.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Mourad Adjal reviewed the status of cooperation between the two countries and the significant steps achieved within the framework of the electricity production plant project currently being constructed by the Sonelgaz Group for the benefit of the Republic of Niger. This is in implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic, aimed at supporting and improving the electricity supply in this brotherly country.
The Minister pointed out that the energy sector is among the first to fulfill its commitments regarding this important project, which is being realized in record time. He considered this achievement to be a significant strategic step in the course of bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister also discussed several files he described as priorities in the cooperation between the two parties, particularly regarding the rehabilitation of networks, as well as the restructuring and organization of the energy sector and system in the Republic of Niger, especially through the adoption of modern, advanced digital tools. Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of promoting and supporting human resources and Nigerien companies active in the construction of energy facilities, through specialized training programs at the Sonelgaz Group's training schools across various energy-related professions.
For her part, the Minister expressed her great satisfaction with the current level of cooperation between the energy sectors of the two countries, praising the record time in which the electricity production plant project in the capital, Niamey, was completed. The Minister also outlined a number of priority projects which, according to her, require the support of the Algerian side and the utilization of Algerian expertise for their implementation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Minister praised the dynamism and professionalism that characterized the cooperation and exchanges with the Algerian energy sector, affirming the Republic of Niger's strong desire to enhance this cooperation and expand its scope in the future.
