Within the framework of strengthening the Algerian presence on the African continent and consolidating relations of cooperation and partnership with brotherly countries, in embodiment of the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at promoting South-South cooperation, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, paid an official working visit to the Ivorian capital, Abidjan, on June 29 and 30, 2026, heading a high-level delegation. Upon his arrival at Abidjan International Airport, the Minister was received by the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Mr. Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, along with several Ivorian officials and members of the Algerian Embassy in Abidjan.
The Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies began his visit program by holding a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire, Mr. Robert Beugré Mambé. He also held an expanded working session with the Ivorian Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, dedicated to reviewing the current state of cooperation between the two countries and the prospects for its development, as well as discussing investment and partnership opportunities between Algerian and Ivorian institutions.
The visit culminated in the signing of a governmental cooperation agreement in the field of energy and renewable energies, in addition to a number of memorandums of understanding between economic institutions in both countries, which opens up new horizons for partnership and investment and strengthens the presence of energy operators from both countries. This agreement embodies the joint commitment of both parties to develop a mutually beneficial energy partnership. It also lays down the legal and institutional framework that will regulate the cooperation activities and projects planned between the two countries in the energy sector.
This visit comes as a continuation of the momentum of bilateral exchanges that have remarkably strengthened over the past months. It is worth noting that the visit made by Mr. Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly, Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, last March to Algeria, and the bilateral talks he held with the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, paved the way for laying the foundations for cooperation aimed at building a long-term strategic partnership in the energy and renewable energy sectors.
This was followed by the visit of a delegation of Ivorian experts last May to Algeria. This visit provided an opportunity for on-site observation of Algeria's capabilities and expertise across the entire value chain in the energy industry, as well as discussing opportunities for technical and institutional cooperation between bodies and companies operating in the energy sectors of both countries.
