On 8 June 2026, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, accompanied the Prime Minister, Mr. Seifi Ghrieb, on a working visit to the Republic of Chad. In the presence of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Chad, Mr. Allamaye Halina, they presided over the foundation stone-laying ceremony for the Algerian-Chadian Solidarity Power Plant in N'Djamena, with an installed generation capacity of 40 MW.
This project is being implemented in accordance with the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and reflects the shared commitment of the leaders of both countries to strengthen cooperation and solidarity between Algeria and Chad and to support economic and social development efforts for the benefit of the two brotherly peoples.
The project also demonstrates Algeria's commitment, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to supporting sister African countries in implementing strategic development projects with a direct impact on improving living conditions and promoting sustainable development.
At the beginning of the ceremony, a detailed technical presentation was delivered on the power plant project, covering its technical and engineering aspects, implementation phases, operational prospects, and its importance in strengthening energy cooperation and the Algerian-Chadian partnership in electricity generation and distribution.
The Ministry of Energy and Renewable Energies, through its subsidiary Sonelgaz International, is responsible for implementing this energy facility, which will operate with gas turbines and have an installed capacity of 40 MW. The project aims to meet the growing demand for electricity and enhance security of electricity supply in N'Djamena and the surrounding areas.
Once commissioned, the power plant is expected to strengthen the Chadian electricity network and improve power supply, thereby supporting economic and social development and fostering industrial and service activities in N'Djamena and its neighbouring regions.
