In implementation of the directives of the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, aimed at strengthening Algeria's presence on the African continent and promoting South–South cooperation, particularly in West Africa, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies, Dr. Mourad Adjal, held talks via videoconference on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, with his Beninese counterpart, Mr. Édouard Dahome, Minister of Energy, Water and Mines of the Republic of Benin.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the current state and future prospects of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. On this occasion, both Ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to elevating the bilateral partnership to a higher level, particularly in priority sectors, foremost among them the energy sector.

The discussions also focused on the ongoing cooperation between the Sonelgaz Group and the Communauté Électrique du Bénin (CEB). In this regard, reference was made to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two parties in 2024, which aims to strengthen cooperation across the entire electricity value chain, including capacity building, training, and the transfer of expertise.

On this occasion, the Minister of Energy and Renewable Energies reaffirmed Algeria's full readiness to support the Republic of Benin in the implementation of its energy projects through the sharing of expertise, the provision of technical assistance, capacity building, and the development of energy infrastructure, reflecting the extensive experience and capabilities of Algeria's energy sector across the entire electricity value chain.

The Minister also highlighted the industrial capabilities of the Sonelgaz Group in the manufacturing of electrical equipment, reaffirming Algeria's willingness to develop fruitful cooperation in supplying the Beninese market with such equipment and exploring opportunities for their commercialization throughout the West African region.

At the end of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continuing coordination and joint efforts to implement the signed agreements and identify concrete, mutually beneficial cooperation projects, thereby contributing to the establishment of a model energy partnership between the two countries in line with the principles of South–South cooperation.
